Facts VanishA clash with installed software and Generations can remove information already entered is deleted when editing a person on Windows XP. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete. The Windows task manager will be displayed. Select the Processes Tag at the top and look down the list. Look down the list and find whether you have either "OPWARE32.EXE" or "EM_EXEC.EXE" running. Select the process and click End Process and end then process. Now go into Generations and the problem will no longer persist. If "OPWARE32.EXE" is not running in the background it may be due to Microsoft Word 2000 being installed. If when CTRL+Delete pressed and all other options tried look down the list of processes and end each one apart from Explorer and Systray. Each time they delete a process try to see whether it has rectified the problem. Once they have found the process which causes the problem quit the process before starting Generations. Look in the Windows Startup menu for applications that may interfere with Generations and move them to the desktop. No colours on chartSave the chart and then load it before printing when using Windows XP. How to get spouses on descendant chartClick on Charts, Descendant Chart, Layout arrow and select Define Layout. Click on Name Setup and click on Change and select the 6th date format. Name B-D, Spouse B-D and then remove the birth and death fields under Person and Spouse as they would duplicate the details. finally click on save. No ChartsIf when you create a chart, nothing appears in easy chart try uninstalling Generations and reinstall using the default path on the C drive. If you need more space on the C drive set the virtual memory to be on the D drive. Extras CDTo install simply put the CD in your drive and click on UNZIP, this will put three Acrobat documents on the Desktop, if upon clicking on these an error occurs you will need to install the Acrobat Reader by clicking on Start, Run, D:\ACROBT95.EXE — if your CD is not D use it's letter instead. Who publishes Generations?The package was originally published in the UK by Sierra who were bought by Havas then Universal. The program was then sold to Genealogy.com who were then bought by Ancestry. A version is now available through River Deep under the Broderbund label, this was said to be XP Pro compatible but still has some XP issues in 8.5b. |
